The sun shone, the scoring was good and everyone was just so pleased to be playing again after such a long 'lay-off'.
The early leaders were Brian Hull & Matt Fry who went out with 24 points on the front nine. They came back in 20 and were in front for a long time in the Clubhouse. Kev Lapage and Ian Southgate made a steady start with a 'one over' front nine for 21 but came to life on the back nine with some excellent driving from Kevin which set up a number of chances for birdies. The greens were never going to be easy as they were very slow and bumpy but the pair managed to come home in 1 under for a total of 44 and won the Trophy on 'countback'.
The Spring Shield is also the qualifier for the Kindred Shield and the pairs of Goslings & Wyatts will represent the club in July at Thorpe Hall together with the above. Uncle with Dad and Nephew with Son after the 'Boys' scored 41 and the 'Oldies' 38.
We all hope S.G.C. can retain the trophy we so narrowly won last year from Thorpe at Belfairs.
